Unwind at the Coast of Long Beach Washington

Long Beach, Washington is a coastal town tucked away from it all. Once you arrive here, there is no reason to drive much further. Located on the southernmost point of the Olympic Pensinula, this area is historic dating back to 1922.

They claim to have the “longest beach in the world” and one you can drive on too! When I first visited I was shocked to that you can just drive onto the beach.

Where is Long Beach, Washington?

Located on the Pacific Ocean, Long Beach is the southermost western city in Washington just across from the town of Astoria, Oregon. Take the Astoria-Megler bridge 4 miles across the Columbia River and drive for 10 minutes before arriving to Long Beach.

From Portland: 2.5 hours

From Seattle: 3 hours and 20 minutes

When is the Best Time to Visit Long Beach?

If you ask me, I am an Oregonian so I think the off season is the best time to visit! October-March are going to be rainy and sometimes very windy in Long Beach!

Summer is going to be the busiest time to visit, with a drier climate and warmer days in the 60-70s. Rates for lodging are going to be highest as well.

Where to Stay in Long Beach

Since Long Beach is on the smaller side, there are limited lodging options outside of private Airbnb rentals. Below are hotels and lodging options that I would personally recommend. Outside of these there are larger hotels as well that I don’t personally have experience with.

Adrift Hotel and Spa

Located just steps from the beach, this is the most popular and newest hotel in the area. Plus, the on-site restaurant Pickled Fish is delicious! Adrift Hotel has dog friendly rooms as well. The spa on-site is a wonderful place to book a massage or facial for your time at Long Beach.

Sou’Wester Lodge

If you want something vintage and vibey, the Sou’wester Lodge in Seaview, just 5 minutes from Long Beach is for you! The historic lodge was built in 1892 where Portland prominent families came to escape coining it the “Hamptons of the West”. The lodge today is a cozy place to sit and warm up after a brisk beach walk. Their vintage RVs and trailers are all unique and some pet friendly!

Boardwalk Cottages

With dining options being limited in Long Beach, Boardwalk Cottages are a great place to stay with a full kitchen. About a 5 minute walk from the beach and dog friendly.

Chautauqua Resort & Conference Center

A older hotel with views of the beach and steps away as well. Rooms aren’t remodeled so this hotel is going to be a more affordable option it the area.

Inn at Discovery Coast

This is a newer build located right on the beach. Rooms vary but can have a jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and porch with views of the Pacific Ocean. This is a part of the Adrift Hotel line so you have access to their spa which includes a covered, heated saline pool and barrel saunas.

Where to Eat in Long Beach

Keep in mind before visiting Long Beach, that dining out is limited here. However, there are some incredible places to eat seafood!

Pickled Fish is located inside the Adrift Hotel on the waterfront at the top floor with views of the ocean. A wonderful place to sit and watch the sunset! Plus, they’re open daily for dinner at 3PM and open on the weekends for brunch.

Castaways Seafood Grill is located in the historic downtown area with a seafood forward menu and cocktails. Open daily!

Current Coffee and Cocktails is the best place for coffee in Long Beach Washington. They serve flatbreads, breakfast burritos and fresh pressed juice.

Seaview Biscuit Company has incredible homemade biscuit sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, and fried chicken sandwiches.

The Depot Restaurant is a fine dining experience with seafood forward dishes. Don’t let the exterior steer you away-the food is incredible! They do take reservations and I suggest doing that during that during peak summer and weekends.

Things to do in Long Beach Washington

Of course Long Beach is a wonderful place to escape it all and watch the waves crash by, but there are some fun and quirky things to do here.

Visit North Head Lighthouse

Inside Cape Disappointment State Park, the North Head Lighthouse is where there are active coast guard guiding the ships into the Port at Astoria. Waves are gigantic here because of how the mouth of the Columbia feeds into the ocean. It is said over 2,000 boats have sunken along the shores here.

Discovery Coast Trail

Walk, bike or hike this trail with its many entry points. It is 8.5 miles long and takes you straight to Cape Disappointment State Park. The wooden boardwalk portion burned on the 4th of July in 2025 and is in the phases of being rebuilt.

Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center

Inside of Cape Disappointment State Park, the interpretive center is full of historic maps, journals, and artifacts. Learn more about the Lewis and Clark discovery of this part of the Pacific Coast.

Hike Deadman’s Cove

Located inside of Cape Disappointment State Park, this hike takes you to a Cove that teleports you to the Pirates of the Caribbean. I suggest doing the hike at low tide if you can so you can walk on the beach. Otherwise, it is quite treacherous and I don’t recommend going down the the water. It is illegal to walk on the small island.

Willapa National Wildlife Refuge

If your a bird watcher, the wildlife refuge is the place for you. Elk, Black Bears, otters and extraordinary wildlife can be found here. More than 300 species of birds have their home in the marshes, wetlands, and forests in this coastal area.

Visit Astoria, Oregon

Just 30 minutes from Long Beach, is Astoria Oregon. The scenic drive across the 4 mile long Astoria-Megler bridge is worth it in itself. Enjoy the day here and use this guide to explore the sites.

Funland Family Fun Center

The perfect thing for rainy day activities, the arcade and laser tag center is in the heart of downtown Long Beach. Open Daily from 10-8.

World Kite Museum

I’ve gotten to see some of the best kites fly on the beaches of Long Beach! The museum is a great thing for a rainy day. Learn about the 2,500 year old history of the kite and see kites from around the world.

Visit a Cranberry Bog

In the beginning of October, every year the Cranberry Museum hosts events where you can see how cranberries are harvested. Do a walking tour, visit the museum, and buy fresh and frozen cranberries.

Quirky place and worth the stop. It’s been here since 1921 and was a candy shop and ice cream store. Now, its full of gifts, history, and more! You will have to see for yourself.
